Celebrating a Legal Luminary at 65: Chief Dr. Uwensuyi Charles Edosomwan, SAN —A Paragon of legal scholarship and Mentorship

Today, the legal community in Nigeria and beyond joins hands in felicitation as Chief Uwensuyi Charles Edosomwan, SAN, a paragon of legal scholarship and erudition, attains the venerable age of 65.

As a seasoned Senior Advocate of Nigeria and constitutional law authority, Chief Edosomwan has, over the decades, inscribed his name in gold upon the annals of legal history—not merely through forensic brilliance in the courtroom, but also through his unwavering commitment to mentoring the next generation of legal minds.

President Aigbokhan, a human rights advocate and foremost Freedom of Information (FOI) litigator, who trained under Mr. Edosomwan, extolled the celebrant’s enduring legacy in his words “Chief. Dr. Edosomwan SAN is not only a brilliant lawyer, but a formative force in the national social circle. He instilled in me the discipline and rigour that continue to define my professional life. To be mentored by him is to be schooled in the highest workforce of the Bar. I can boldly say that the dog of a king is the king of dogs.”

From his seminal interventions in constitutional interpretation to his profound contributions to legal reform, Chief Edosomwan’s career has embodied integrity, sacrifice and intellectual depth.

Beyond the law, Mr. Edosomwan’s commitment to the values of mentorship, civility, and nation-building remains exemplary. He asked me to read two Supreme Court cases weekly and brief him. Till date, he says you are not doing well, increase your pace and whenever you need me let me know.

As a product of his mentorship, I piggyback on his Call to advance reforms, justice, and institutional development. I thank God the day I met him and he also accepted to mentor me, not every lawyer will have such a privilege.

As he marks 65 years of a life well-lived and a career still in ascent, I salute his towering achievements, and enduring service to the legal profession and to Nigeria.

May his years ahead be filled with continued wisdom, good health, and the satisfaction that his life’s work has inspired many and strengthened the pursuit of justice
