FOI Counsel Trains Judges on FOIA

In July 2023, FOI Counsel was privileged to be part of the esteemed faculty responsible for training judges on the Freedom of Information Act of 2011 in Abuja. This transformative event, organized by Juristrust and the National Judicial Institute with generous support from the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS), marks a significant milestone in legal advocacy and public access to information.

FOI Counsel, Africa’s pioneering FOIA litigation-specialized firm, was established with a core mission: to provide legal assistance to NGOs and media outlets seeking information and public participation. Our areas of focus span FOI Advocacy, Legal Aid, Human Rights Litigation, Research, and Policy Advocacy.

We are proud to announce the launch of our quarterly publication, “The President’s Newsletter.” The four published editions so far, titled “Open Justice,” “AI and Rule of Law,” “Startup Act and Law Practice,” and “FOIA Review Proceedings and Endangered Defenders,” have contributed significantly to the discourse on access to information.

Our pro bono services have touched the lives of over 437 individuals, including 63 NGOs and 8 journalists in Nigeria. Furthermore, we have conducted training sessions for over 880 participants, including judges and individuals with disabilities.
